Ekaratsu mug (Hagi)
Ekaratsu is a representative technique of Karatsu ware with a 400-year history. The pottery is fired with an iron glaze called oniita, in which patterns of grass, trees, flowers, etc. are painted, and then an ash glaze is poured over the top. The exquisite balance between the forcefulness of the brushstrokes and the fine lines that connect them is beautiful, and the surrounding white space makes the patterns stand out even more. The mug was completed after a long process of trial and error, with the first priority being to create a handle that is comfortable in the hand and does not tire easily when filled with beverages. The rustic and calm colors will make you feel a moment of relaxation.
