Illustrated Karatsu Iron Glazed Plate (a set of five, approx. 12cm)

These plates are made with the method called Egaratsu. Egaratsu is where a pattern is drawn on a Karatsu clay base using a pigment that contains iron. It is then coated with a transparent glaze. The pattern is a simple pattern that is particular to Karatsu ware. It is covered with ashes from the flames of the firewood, which gives it a unique tarnished look. Although the plates are the same size, they are all slightly deformed by denting or subtly cutting the rim. Even though they are a set of plates, each of them creates a different and playful atmosphere.
